When scanning images, Bit Depth is an important issue and drastically affects file size. The first image (as scanned for film output) is 24-bit color, with 16 million colors, has a file size of 1.55MB. The second is an 8-bit color image, with 256 colors, has a file size of 518K. The third is 8 bit grayscale, with 256 shades of gray, has a file size of 518K. The last is a 1-bit dithered image and has a file size of 64K. |
