PARTITION MAGIC PRO 5

Partition Magic is a handy and versatile partitioning program that enables the user to quickly create, delete, move, check, convert and resize just about all known hard disk drive partition types used in the current computer market.  In short, it is a hard disk drive partitioning utility.

Always install on the same partition as Windows 95 or 98 (although you can install on NT4 Workstation).  This ensures that the path to the Partition Magic program is not interrupted if other Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) containing primary partitions are installed to the system (i.e. the other primary will become the new D: drive).  Any changes to the partition containing the operating system will necessitate a reboot into DOS mode where a batch file (script) will complete the necessary partition changes.

Multiple operating system computers can often experience problems when trying to run this batch file (i.e. batch file is skipped and the partitioning process is not started).  This can be remedied by running the program/batch file from the DOS-mode command prompt.

Practical

Install Partition Magic Pro 5 to Win95/98 Only! The serial number is in the “PMPro5” folder.  Open this text file and copy/paste during Setup.exe.  You will find Setup.exe in the following location: Utility\Pm-pro5\English\Windows\Setup\

Do NOT make the rescue disks when prompted and do NOT register the product (you are not connected to the Internet!).

Make a Shortcut on the desktop for Partition magic Pro5 and start the program - (note: make sure that extra disk checking is NOT enabled!)  Go to "general" then “preferences” – now select “skip bad sector checks” for all disks.  With healthy hard disk drives significant reductions in partitioning task times can be achieved.

Reduce the size of your E: drive by 200MB.

Move the F: drive partition down next to the E: drive partition (there must be no space between these partitions).  There should be approximately 200 MB of unpartitioned space at the end of your HDD now.

Now create a new partition (Fat16) with the unpartitioned space (Fat16).

Apply changes and reboot.  NOTE: Don't enable "Drivemapper" when asked.

When your PC restarts into Win95 view/confirm your new changes using "explorer".

Now restore all partitions to their original configuration using Partition Magic again!
